Week Three

This is my first 7 day working week and the work is running at a very very fast pace however it is also fairlt tedious, as fabric is arriving the week before the deadline there is frenzy of sorting through the fabric, measuring is, labelling it then cutting. Furthermore as we cut final fabrics we also have to do a process named 'consumption' this involves laying out the printed fabric pieces measuring the lay plan and each garment this is so when the garment needs recreating the next 3 times (one for each show) they can all be the same. The process isn't difficult it just takes a long time, then they're filed on the computer and printed out and stapled to the spec sheet to be overviewed.

Week Two

As the deadlines nears tensions are getting a lot higher in the studio although the work remains the same its essential to get everything on the patterns mark and notched with no mistakes. This week I have not only been working in the construction studio I have also been working in accounts, taking stock check and also in embroidery and print seeing how the designs are create and developed exclusively for Pilotto. I have found this one of the most interesting things to overview, this as its something I really want to include in my final collection for 3rd year.

Week One

Within the first week of my placement I was mostly cutting toile pieces preparing for the Preseason Spring collection finals, I was also sent on errands to pick up sampling fabrics and shoes. Overall the week is frantic although the mornings are slow when 3 o'clock hits the studio is extremely busy with the 1st of june deadline approaching the nights got later and later. As Im on day shifts my shift is from 8.00-6.00 where as night shifters come in at 14.00-12.00.

First day

My first day at Peter Pilotto was mostly about showing us the tasks we (the interns) will be doing for the next month; which was assisting in pattern cutting. The way the studio works I found very interesting as this was my first day in high fashion house before. The patterns are created in a Lectra like program where they digitised in, manipulated on the computer and plotted out on the plotter. The patterns are then laid out by a senior member of staff and cut by the studio assistants and interns. Overall, the job is simple as it is simply; cutting, notching and marking. However seeing how complicated and detailed the patterns are is already inspiring the way I visualise my final collection and also giving me a more advanced knowledge of construction in general.

In first few hours of my placement I was fearing the worst with such films as the 'Devil wears Prada' and the warning the studio manager gave me in my interview I was bracing myself for lunch time and the social aspect of the fashion industry especially as interns are very famously meant to be in competition with each other. However, so far everyone I have spoken to has been friendly and helpful. The whole company including the interns work as a team theres no under handed agenda which has made me feel really comfortable.

As it nearer six o'clock I noted that more and more work had been coming to be cut and so I was asked to stay late, which I was told was a regular occurrence at Peter Pilotto. I ended up staying until 8.30, which was an almost 12 hour day, another intern said in general no leaves before 7.30 so be prepared for late nights. Although the balance is evener by a later morning. This was the only down side to the placement that I could see, as I live 1/2 hours away I was home at 10.00 and exhausted.

New Feminism

For my final second year project I was asked to create a capsule collection based on a macro trend of my choosing. My Macro trend chosen was named 'New Feminism' inspired by politics and the ever change image of women within the fashion industry, it attempts to blurs the lines between genders, aesthetically it is inspired by recent luxe sports trend and developing concept inspired by the masculine shapes we have seen on the catwalk in last few seasons. Below I have attached my final capsule collection.

Street Style Meets . . .

This outfit really stood out to me, I love the burst of colour from the hat and the hot red lipstick. What drew me to the outfit was the scarf, it pulls the whole look together, the print is intricate, quirky and adds a layer of detail to the look. The look is unique, sophisticated and very very wearable.

Street Style Meets. . .

I fell in love with this jacket! Gold is a very difficult colour to wear. However, in brassy worn tones it's very authentically vintage, this outfit really stood out to me as different. Furthermore, when I asked where she had purchased the jacket she told me it was a family heirloom.
